GST Calculator – Instantly Calculate GST on Any Amount

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) is India's unified indirect tax system, replacing a complex web of central and state taxes since July 2017. Whether you are a business owner raising invoices, a consumer checking if a price is inclusive of GST, or an accountant preparing returns, our free GST calculator makes it effortless. Enter any amount, select the GST rate, and instantly get the GST amount, base price, and the CGST/SGST split for intra-state transactions or the IGST amount for inter-state transactions.

How the GST Calculator Works

The calculator supports two modes. Add GST mode: you have the base price and want to find the GST-inclusive total. Formula: GST Amount = Base Price × GST Rate ÷ 100; Total = Base Price + GST Amount. Remove GST mode: you have the GST-inclusive price and want to find the original base price. Formula: Base Price = Inclusive Price × 100 ÷ (100 + GST Rate); GST Amount = Inclusive Price – Base Price. In both cases, for intra-state supply, GST is split equally between CGST and SGST (each = GST ÷ 2). For inter-state supply (IGST), the full GST applies as one tax.

Frequently Asked Questions about GST

What are the GST rates in India?

India has four primary GST rate slabs: 5% (essential goods and services like packaged food, transport), 12% (processed foods, business class travel, computers), 18% (most services, electronics, capital goods), and 28% (luxury items, tobacco, automobiles, cement). Some items like fresh vegetables, milk, and healthcare are exempt (0% GST).

What is the difference between CGST, SGST, and IGST?

When a transaction is within the same state (intra-state), GST is split equally between CGST (Central GST, collected by the central government) and SGST (State GST, collected by the state government). When a transaction crosses state lines (inter-state), or involves imports, IGST (Integrated GST) applies — collected by the centre and shared with the destination state.

Who needs to register for GST?

Businesses with an annual turnover exceeding ₹40 lakh (₹20 lakh for special category states) must register for GST. Service providers with turnover above ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh for special states) must also register. Certain businesses must register regardless of turnover — like inter-state suppliers, e-commerce operators, and those making reverse charge supplies.

How do I calculate GST on a MRP-inclusive price?

If a product's MRP is GST-inclusive, use the Remove GST formula: Base Price = MRP × 100 ÷ (100 + GST Rate). For example, a product with MRP ₹118 inclusive of 18% GST has a base price of ₹118 × 100 ÷ 118 = ₹100. GST amount = ₹18, split as CGST ₹9 + SGST ₹9. Our calculator handles this instantly.

Can I claim input tax credit (ITC) on GST paid?

Yes. GST-registered businesses can claim Input Tax Credit for GST paid on purchases used for business purposes. ITC allows you to offset your GST liability (output tax on sales) against GST paid on inputs, reducing the net tax payable. Conditions for ITC include possession of a valid tax invoice, receipt of goods/services, and payment of GST to the government by the supplier.
