How do I create an account?

What happens when I first sign in?

After your first login, a currency selection modal appears. Choose your preferred currency — this setting applies globally across all your charts, budgets, values, and labels. You can change it anytime from Settings → Currency.

What if I skip the currency selection?

If you close or skip the first-time currency modal, your currency defaults to USD. The modal will never appear again, but you can still update your currency at any time via Settings → Currency.

Do I need to connect my bank account?

Click the Add Expense button from the dashboard or the Expenses page. Enter the amount, date, description, and select a context — Personal, Travel, or Event. You can also assign the expense to a budget and split it across multiple categories.

Context lets you separate your everyday spending (Personal) from holiday or trip costs (Travel) and special occasions like weddings or birthdays (Event). Each context can be filtered and reported on independently, so you can see exactly what's driving your spending.

Can I split an expense across multiple categories?

Yes. When adding or editing an expense, you can distribute the total amount across multiple categories — for example, splitting a grocery run between Food, Household, and Personal Care. Each split amount is tracked separately in your category reports.

How do I edit or delete an expense?

From the Expenses page, find the transaction you want to update and click the edit icon. To delete, open the expense and select Delete. Deletions are permanent, so double-check before confirming.

Yes. The Expenses page lets you filter by date range, category, and context. The dashboard also has a period filter — This Month, Last 3 Months, Last 6 Months, Last 12 Months, and This Year — that updates all charts and summaries instantly.

How many categories can I have?

There is no limit to the number of categories you can create. Go to Settings → Manage Categories to add, rename, reorder, or delete categories. Each category has a name, colour, and icon.

How do I create a budget?

Go to the Budgets page and click Add Budget. Set a name, spending limit, and optionally link it to a category or context. Once active, every expense linked to that budget counts against its limit in real time.

Yes. When creating a budget, you can tie it to one or more expense categories. Expenses in those categories will automatically reduce the budget's remaining balance.

The budget progress bar turns red and shows 'Over budget' once spending exceeds the limit. If you have budget alerts enabled in Settings → Notifications, you'll receive an email warning when you're approaching or have exceeded your limit.

The Budget Performance section on your dashboard shows your top active budgets, how much you've spent, your total limit, the percentage used, and how much remains. It's sorted by highest spending so your most pressured budgets appear first.

Budgets in Myexpense are ongoing — they're not reset each month automatically. You control when a budget is active or inactive. This lets you run long-term budgets (for annual goals, for example) alongside shorter-term ones.

Your savings rate is shown on the dashboard as a percentage. It's calculated as: ((Total Income - Total Expenses) / Total Income) × 100. A positive rate means you're saving money; a negative rate means you've spent more than you earned for that period.
